Exercise your body and your brain

Anti-aging research shows that it is never too late to take steps toward improving physical and mental health by adopting some healthy lifestyle modifications.

Argyle Hillis, MD, director of the cerebrovascular division at Johns Hopkines Medicine says that there is not much difference between an 18-year-old and 100-year-old brain. Healthful habits can have many rewards, such as slowing down the aging process and

these lifestyle changes can improve mental health, physical endurance, vitality, and general wellness.

Being active can help lower the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, dementia, and some cancers. Wouldn't you rather spend your later years with a better quality of life?

Sleep is an often overlooked health factor. Lack of sleep can impact memory, emotions, weight, behavior, and appearance.

Exercise your brain by challenging it with new tasks. Learn a new skill, paint, or do a crossword puzzle, for example. Doing things in new ways can help your brain to retain cells and important neural connections. You can add mental exercises to your pool time by trying something new or playing games. Pool time can also help keep your stress in check and maintain a positive outlook.
